During lunch yesterday, Tim spoke to Kerrville's Rotary Club about our upcoming move. He did such a great job. I was proud of him. Once again, the room was filled with friendly faces and such supportive friends. Our old neighbors sat just behind me, friends from church shared my table with me, a few doctors were there, a couple who used to serve on the local Young Life Committee with us were there......all representing different facets of the last sixteen years of our life in Kerrville, and each one reminding us of a piece of our history here which we will miss and for which we thank God. Only 69 days now til we board the plane for cross-cultural missions training, and 21 days after that, we leave for Kibogora. Wow.....
A few hours later, I spoke to the Kids in Action group at our church. My power point presentation would NOT cooperate, so I had to switch gears at the last minute. (I'm still trying to understand why that powerpoint wouldn't open. It showed in the files, but wouldn't open when I double clicked it. For any Mac users, do you have any ideas?) Luckily, Julie Yerger, a nurse who has served in Kibogora for 4 years and is about to head there again for her 5th, has sent us about 400 photos, which are all on my computer.
So, instead of showing my powerpoint, I had a dad (thanks, Reagan Land!) who was there scroll through random pictures and I explained them as best I could while I went. This turned out to be a great way to do a kids' presentation, because the kids were free to ask questions all through the talk. They learned how to say "How are you?" and "I'm very well, thank you" in Kinyarwandan, AND they all got to ask as many questions as they wanted about our mission. They asked some good ones, too! In the end, I think the presentation went way better than it would have gone had I been able to show my presentation.
